Live Music
Every part of this great and vast nation has its own unique flavor and appeal. From foods, to fine arts, to music, the cultural landscape of the United States is replete with original artists not only influencing the local scene but the nation and world at large. New Orleans and southwest Louisiana are famous for incredible Cajun and zydeco music while historically, African American musicians in the southeastern United States have been credited with giving rise to such movements as gospel, jazz, the blues and ragtime since each movement’s inception.

In our present state of advanced technology it seems that we may in fact be losing sight of the joy that live music instills in all of our hearts. From singing in church choirs to playing in local city orchestras or jazz bands, music can bring people from a plethora of diverse backgrounds together with a common, life-giving goal; the creation of stirring sound.

From haunting classical music, to heartrending jazz, to acapella singing groups to outstanding gospel choirs, there are numerous musical genres and venues to enjoy. Furthermore there are abundant opportunities in which to participate in musical appreciation in communities across the country. Celebrated African American musicians exist in every genre and across the span of this nation’s history. Put a little bit of joy back into your own life and those around you by making the effort to support live music in your own community; you’ll be happy you did.
