Kirk Franklin to Host New Show for BET

Reality television has taken the nation by storm. From America’s Next Top Model, to Fear Factor, to Big Brother, to Survivor, to American Idol, reality TV has a wide range of programming formats.

Everybody knows that today’s reality shows are filled with singing competitions. Well, move over reality TV … Kirk Franklin is joining the lineup! The Grammy Award winning gospel recording artist will host BET’s new reality competition, “Sunday Best,” set to debut on October 2nd at 8:00 p.m.

A weekly series, “Sunday Best,” will search the country’s parishes and mega-churches to find the best undiscovered singers in America. Grammy Award-winning gospel superstar BeBe Winans and the popular gospel duo Mary Mary will serve as judges.

During the first five episodes, thousands of hopefuls from around the country will be narrowed down to twenty finalists. The contestants will perform live. Viewers will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite contestant via phone and text messaging at the end of each show.

Kirk Franklin is a platinum-selling musician who successfully blends gospel, hip hop, and R&B. Kirk released his first gospel album, Kirk Franklin & Family, in 1993 and quickly rose to superstardom. He is known as the leader of gospel choirs such as Kirk Franklin & the Family, Kirk Franklin’s Nu Nation, God’s Property and Kirk Franklin Presents 1NC.
